💡 Meaning & story
Chorus (Opening Couplet): What a strange joy I have found through prayer...
• Explanation: The poet says that after praying to God with a sincere heart, I have found a strange spiritual peace and happiness. It felt as though a star sparkled in the sky, and that star was actually my God's smile, which signaled the acceptance of my prayer.
First Verse:
• Begging too is a refined art form...
o Explanation: To become a beggar and ask is itself a legitimate art. I have perfected this art by this: when I stretched my hands before God, instead of asking for worldly wealth and riches, I asked for God Himself.
• Every hardship of the night of separation has been defeated...
o Explanation: Every difficulty and darkness of the night spent away from the beloved had to surrender, because I spent the entire night calling upon God and remembering Him, until at last I saw the light of dawn break through (that is, the difficult time passed).
Second Verse:
• Thinking that an answer will surely come one day...
o Explanation: I stand at the door of my True Beloved (Allah) with full hope, having called out once, that today or tomorrow, surely a response filled with love will come from within.
• These are healers—a gathering of tasteless people...
o Explanation: The poet mocks those people and so-called sympathizers of the world who have come to cure him. He says they have no understanding of love; they wish to heal my ailment by drawing me away from the memory of my Beloved (God), which is utterly impossible.
Bridge:
• If even God does not forgive them, then it would be a marvel...
o Explanation: This is a verse of deep psychological and emotional state. The poet says that when a person, after committing sin, becomes truly repentant and ashamed from the heart, then his forgiveness becomes certain. Here the poet says in a unique way that after sincere repentance, God's mercy is already in motion; if forgiveness does not come even after such shame, it would be astonishing. (That is, true shame itself is the real repentance).
Closing Couplet (Outro):
• My faith in my own self has grown firm...
o Explanation: O Nadeem! On this journey of love and devotion, although I could not receive any outward or worldly reward, yet the greatest benefit of this has been that I have gained complete certainty in myself and in the truth of my character. My faithfulness has made me a stronger person from within.
